General tso's chicken and fried rice. They never taste like real Chinese takeout, so I was very worried about how my General Tso Chicken and Fried Rice was going to taste. As I cooked, I tasted and to my surprise everything seemed to taste pretty darn good. Since everyone loves their Chinese food differently, if you feel like this recipe needs more seasonings then go ahead and add.
General tso's chicken and fried rice I was craving Chinese food but can't leave the house because I have a newborn so I recreated this classic Asian cuisine.
It is a tasty chicken dish with sweet and sticky sauce that may have been created in right here in North America!
We love the way it pairs with oven-baked rice and Sesame Ginger Snap Peas !

General Tso's chicken (pronounced ) is a sweet deep-fried chicken dish that is served in North American Chinese restaurants. The dish is named after Zuo Zongtang (also romanized Tso Tsung-t'ang), a Qing dynasty statesman and military leader, although there is no recorded connection to him nor is the dish known in Hunan, Zuo's home province. It's sweet, savory, sour and every bit as addictive as the restaurant version. The chicken is crispy without being overly breaded (my usual complaint when it comes to General Tso's), while the sauce is thick and syrupy, just like it should be.

A plate of take-out General Tso's Chicken is usually made with deep fried chicken thighs and lots of sugar. Swapping dark meat for white meat, lightly wok sauteeing in place of deep frying, and cutting out the extra sugar, since hoisin is sweet enough, worked out great. This General Tso Chicken is near and dear to my heart. It's actually the first meal my husband, Jared, ever made for me back when we were dating. How lucky am I to have a husband that loves to cook!
